The Ministry of Education reported the approval of the decree formalizing the cancellation of legal personality and the revocation of the official recognition of La República University.
The next stage of the process will be the appointment of the institution's closing administrator by the National Education Council.
According to the statement sent by the Undersecretariat of Higher Education, the closure administrator will act as the principal academic authority of the institution and will have the priority responsibility of ensuring the academic continuity of students who are in a position to finish their studies.
Among its functions will be to manage the necessary conditions for registered students to resume their academic processes, either at the same university or to complete their studies at other institutions, through the establishment of relocation agreements when conditions permit.
The process will be carried out with the coordination of the bodies responsible for overseeing higher education institutions in the country, along with the current authorities of La República University.
Role of the Superintendency of Higher Education
Facing the scenario of forced liquidation of Universidad La República and with the purpose of safeguarding the adequate provision of educational services committed to its students, the Superintendency of Higher Education (SES), within the framework of its powers and the procedure established by law, accelerated the processing of the administrative process that it had underway regarding the institution.
As a result of said procedure, at the end of December 2025, the SES resolved to propose to the Ministry of Education the revocation of the university's official recognition, a measure contemplated in Law 20.800 for serious breaches that compromise institutional viability.
The university authorities did not file appeals against the adopted measure and expressed their willingness to collaborate in the process, which will facilitate a proper institutional transition.
