The Superintendent of Higher Education, José Miguel Salazar, held a meeting with the recently elected rector of the University of Aysén, Víctor Cubillos Godoy, who took over the leadership of the institution after the provisional administration process, which lasted two years, concluded.
The meeting took place at the offices of the Superintendence of Higher Education (SES) in Santiago. Its main objective was for the new university authority to gain a detailed understanding of the institution's areas of work, the responsible teams, and the scope of the SES's oversight and support activities. Additionally, the meeting served as a forum to discuss the challenges facing the University of Aysén in this new phase.
After the meeting, Rector Víctor Cubillos highlighted the constructive nature of the event, assuring that it was a “tremendously positive” meeting, in which various aspects related to the functioning of state universities were clarified. Likewise, he valued the Superintendent's willingness to support, guide, and train when necessary, especially in the context of the normalization process the institution is undergoing.
“It was a tremendously positive meeting, in which many aspects regarding the functioning of state universities were clarified. I found a good willingness to work from the SES, to clarify, support, and train, if necessary,” stated Cubillos.
The rector also recognized the work done by Juan Pablo Prieto Cox, who was in charge of the provisional administration, highlighting that it was a “difficult task” and that he had to “act in very complex conditions.”.
From the SES, the superintendent valued the conversation with rector Cubillos.
“The University of Aysén has just completed a provisional administration process that allowed it to re-establish its financial viability and strengthen its institutional framework. Today, it has solid foundations to project its academic development and deepen its contribution to the region. The conversation with Rector Cubillos was very fruitful, as it allowed us to learn about his objectives for this new phase and, especially, to clarify doubts relevant to the correct institutional performance in this new stage. From the SES, we are always available to accompany these processes, in order to contribute to the assurance and continuous improvement of the quality of higher education,” assured Superintendent José Miguel Salazar.
