From January 1st to October 3rd, 2022, a significant decrease in the number of claims and complaints filed against higher education institutions has been recorded. In that period of this year, there have been 2,933 applications to the SES Citizen Attention platform, which means a% drop compared to the same period last year (3,264) and a 7% compared to 2020 (3,167).
“One reason that could explain this result is the improvement in sanitary conditions, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, which considerably reduced the circumstances that led academic institutions during 2020 and much of 2021 to implement, due to force majeure, distance learning modalities, in order to protect their communities and, at the same time, safeguard the right to education of their students,” say SES, adding that as of this year, all academic institutions in the country have decisively moved towards greater in-person instruction, “thus resuming the teaching modality originally agreed upon with their students.”.
At the Superintendency, they highlight that six out of 10 favorably decided claims resulted in a favorable outcome for the claimant (62.8%), an indicator that marks a five-percentage-point increase compared to the same period last year. The cases, furthermore, have been closed as the second majority cause due to justified rejection (28.7%).
