The National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Abuse (SENDA) presented the results of the II Study of Drugs in Higher Education. The report is based on a survey conducted online between August and September 2021 among 26,155 students from 43 universities, polytechnics, and technical training centers across the country.
Key figures
The report highlights that the peak drug consumption is among young people aged 23 and 24. Of the total participants, six out of 10 higher education students (60.8%%) acknowledge having consumed alcohol in the last month; and of them, two-thirds (62.9%%) got drunk at least once in the same period. Comparing by gender, 64%%corresponds to men and 62%%to women, indicating a decrease in the gap.
In the case of marijuana, although the figures have decreased compared to the report compiled in 2018, it is concerning that 34.9% of respondents admitted to consuming it 10 or more days a month.
I work with study houses
In the presentation of this study, the acting National Director of SENDA, Lorena Guala, announced that work with higher education institutions will be strengthened through SENDA Academy, training and development platform for institutions, enabling them to have tools that allow them to generate actions to prevent consumption, create interventions, and also address life projects through critical reflection and responsible decision-making regarding consumption.
Do you need help? The SENDA website also offers a Alcohol and Other Drug Use Self-Assessment Questionnaire, and guides you to seek help.
